What Is VoIP?
VoIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol.  Basically, VoIP is telephone service that allows your phone calls to be transmitted over your broadband or highspeed internet connection.

How Does VoIP work?
When you sign up for our service, you must purchase an internet VoIP phone or a conversion box.  These devices plug into an internet router or a broadband internet modem.  They then convert your voice into data and transmits that data to our network.  We take that data and send it to the proper location to complete your call.  At that location, we convert your voice data back to an audio signal, and complete your call.

Do I need special equipment?
Yes.  There are three ways to connect to our service:

     1.  A softphone (Computer software) and a headset with a microphone.
     2.  A conversion box and a normal telephone.
     3.  An IP Phone.

Does it work exactly like my phone does now?
VoIP is sent in a differently, but overall, your phone service will work the same.  We usually provide more features, free of charge, than your normal service.

Can I keep my current phone number?
Yes.  Most of the time, we are able to port your telephone number into our system.  There is a fee for doing this, but if we are unable to complete the port, you will not be charged.

What area codes do you have available?
We can provide you a number anywhere in the U.S.

Which numbers can not be reached with my CallMe-Online service?
We do not provide service to toll area codes such as 900, 976, 700, 540, 500, etc

Number Transfer Availability
Although we try hard to make our service available in all areas, this is just not possible.  We can transfer (Port) most numbers to our service, but there are some that we cannot.  If we cannot port the number, you will not be charged.

What is a Virtual Phone Number?
Virtual Phone Numbers are very inexpensive secondary numbers that ring to your primary CallMe-Online line. The advantage is that people outside your local calling area can call you for the price of a local call if you choose a virtual phone number in their area code.

If I choose a number that is out of the area code that I live in, will people outside of my local area be charged for calling me?
You can choose a number anywhere CallMe-Online has service. Please keep in mind that if you choose a number that is outside of your local calling area, normal long distance, regional or local toll charges may apply for anyone who calls you depending on their telephone provider and their calling plan.

Can I dial 900 numbers with my CallMe-Online service?
We do not allow 900 or any other toll numbers to be called from our service

Will I be charged extra for dialing Canadian numbers?
No. By waiving international fees to Canada, CallMe-Online essentially treats calls to Canada just like traditional long distance calls throughout the U.S.  Of course, just like with domestic long distance calling, you will be charged extra if you don't have an Unlimited plan and you exceed your long distance minutes.  If you have an Unlimited plan, you don't have to worry about overage minutes to the rest of the U.S. or Canada. It's all included.

How do I add a line to my account?
We can provide a second number to your account for you.  Feel free to contact us.

When will E911 be available in my area?
We use the largest 911 and E911 provider in the United States Of America.  If we do not provide 911 or E911 service in your area, it will be coming soon.

How is this different from dialing 911 on a regular landline?
CallMe-Online routes your call to your local emergency response center over the traditional 911 network determined by the physical address you supplied when you activated 911. If we do not have the correct address, your call cannot be routed to the corresponding emergency response center for your area.

Will my CallMe-Online phone adapter work when I travel?
Yes, you can use your CallMe-Online service any place you have a high-speed Internet connection. Callers who need to reach you from your local calling area will be making local calls to your CallMe-Online line even if you are out of town or outside the country.  If you plan on using the service outside the U.S., we suggest checking with local Internet Service Providers in the area to see if there are any regulations on using VoIP service in that specific country. Due to certain restrictions of Internet Service Providers outside of the U.S. and Canada, we cannot guarantee the quality of the CallMe-Online service.  If you use our service in another country, you will have to accept a U.S. telephone number and pay our international rates to call within that country.

What is the difference between E911 and CallMe-Online 911 Dialing?
E911 service gives us the capability to deliver your location and callback number automatically to local 911 emergency services personnel. This feature will improve the effectiveness and reliability of our 911 Dialing service by providing additional information automatically to emergency service personnel.  CallMe-Online 911 Dialing, once its activated, uses the address you provide to determine the nearest emergency response center.

What is traditional 911?
"911" is the telephone number used to request emergency assistance in the United States and Canada. Controlled by various state and local agencies, it provides fast and easy access to local emergency response centers, where 911 calls are received and then routed to the proper emergency services. Most 911 calls are answered by state or local emergency response officials and then dispatched to the appropriate responding agency (fire, police, EMS). Dialing 911 is not the only way of reaching the police, fire or EMS agencies. The public relies upon many methods of reaching emergency services including direct telephone numbers, radio and computer systems.  Depending on a number of variables, 911 systems may or may not know where the caller is located. Available in some areas, Enhanced 911 (E911) receives real time information on the caller's location and callback number.  Like any business or residential phone number, when you dial 911 it is possible for "all lines to be busy," or for "circuits to be full." This is especially true during natural disasters and mass emergency events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or other public warnings. Depending on the local 911 set up, calls may receive a busy signal, recorded message or be routed to an alternative public safety answering point. Although rare, 911 systems are not immune from outages, database failures, inclement weather and human error.  As you are presented with more choices and services in communications, the availability and options of 911 calling vary depending on the service, technology, as well as the state and local authority responding to the call. It's important to be aware of your 911 calling benefits and challenges in accessing emergency services.
